Maleficent and The wings symbolism

-Warning!- mentions of rape

Anywho, so I know I’m far from the first person to think that Maleficent’s wings were probably an allegory for purity or whatever. But last night I was thinking, if we apply that lens to the entire movie, then it suddenly becomes a far less wholesome story, and not just because of the rape elements.

Because here’s the thing, Stefan drugs Maleficent and takes her wings while she’s sleeping (ie. raping her) and then she wakes up and finds out what happens when he’s already long gone.

If we continue then by that logic then Maleficent becomes the scorned woman, evil and mad. This paints a pretty awful image already of what they might have been trying to say. For example, Maleficent was good until she lost her virginity (aka her purity), then she became evil.

And if we continue further, it gets a lot worse. Because the only reason Maleficent becomes good again is due to her maternal feelings towards Aurora. And like, one of the only reasons that women aren't demonized for having sex (willing or otherwise) is when it’s done for the purpose of reproduction.

So technically, Maleficent only gains her wings back because she gains her purity the only way a woman who’s no longer a virgin can, by becoming a mother.

Note, I do not like the way the movie is read if we apply this lens at all.
