Tom RIdde x Y/N Berkshire

Third Person 

The eleven-year-olds were gathered outside in the hallway before to the sorting ceremony. As Draco, your brother's friend, introduced himself to Potter for the first time, you stepped off to the side. You stood alone, and all the other typical Slytherin boys stood alongside Draco. 

“...Dont want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.” Draco extends his hand out to Harry, the rest of us watching.  Harry glances down at the pale skin and his face twists slightly," I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks.” 

In the hallway, silence reigned. As usual, Tom just stared blankly at Harry and his companions. Theo, Blaise, and Lorenzo merely regarded the Golden Trio with scowled expressions. I kept to myself, keeping my arms crossed and wearing a gentle expression.  

Draco wipes his palm on his robes with an ugly expression on his face as he brings his arm to his side. "Why are you standing over there?" he asks after glancing at the gang and turning to face me.  

I shrug, and Tom snatches my robes and hauls me to the group's standing position, then releases me just as soon. I swallow and keep quiet, listening to the group talk. I look up at Tom. He is listening in on the discussion while gazing into the gathering.  

"You have to stay with us," he replies stoically, not casting a sidelong glance at me. His voice is firm and unaccountable. I slowly nod. "Well," he responds. "You need to be cautious because none of us can watch over you at all times." 

——————————————————————————————————    "Berkshire, Lorenzo." Professor McGonagal raises her voice. You watch as your brother gets up, settles into the stool, and puts the sorting hat on his head.  

“Um, huh. An Berkshire. I haven't seen any of you in a long time, do you think? SLYTHERIN. The Berkshires are sorted first in the friend group when the sorting hat appears, and you see him take a seat at the table.  

"Berkshire, Y/N."  

After swallowing, you move to the stool and leave the line. Particularly Tom and Lorenzo's, you can feel the gang watching you. There have been occasions when you've heard the males chatting, wondering what kind of house the young, quiet girl will be in.  "What if shes not sorted into Slytherin?" You overheard your brother tell the boys one night from your bed. 

Silence.  

"Why wouldn't she?" Blaise asks, breaking it.  

"Do you know her personality? "She's too sweet and innocent."  

"We can't just keep making predictions," Blaise explains. "We just have to wait and see."  

You take a deep breath as you feel the hat being lowered; "SLYTHERIN," the sorting hat exclaims before it even reaches your head. You gaze up at the throng and your friends. In addition to the applause from the Slytherin table, the gang can be heard making a hesitant, perplexed clap. You notice the males looking at each other as you slowly climb off the stool and seat by Lorenzo, receiving applause from everyone at the table. You smile pleasantly and thank the others.  

"Congratulations," Lorenzo adds quietly. You nod at him as you wait for the others to be assigned to the same house.

The crew walks out of the Great Hall and follows the Prefect down into the dungeons. Y/N stays by her brother, clutching onto his arm.  

“Oh, Y/N, don't be so scared.” Mattheo says from Tom’s side, pushing his messy brown hair out of his face. 

You respond gently, "I'm not scared, I'm just not used to this place,"  

"Ragazza carina, you got us, don't worry." Smiling, Theo responds, putting a hand on my shoulder. 

With a nod, you turn back to face Theo. How the wall opens to the common room is demonstrated by the Prefect.  

As the first year students—roughly thirty of you—pour in, you gasp, "Wow." Gripping Enzo's arm no longer, you turn to face the room, taking in everything. Additionally, the boys scan the area and make observations. Tom, on the other hand, seemed unimpressed. "Tommy, isn't this great?" you ask, giving him a little tug on his sleeve.  

"Don't call me that," he says, pulling your hand away from his robe with a swift whip of his head, his expression still stoic. 

You swallow and take a step back, retracting your hand," okay...."  

Lorenzo pulls your arm so you face him, "Would you like to sleep in our dorm tonight?" I nod, and he wraps his arm around my shoulders as we walk up the stairs to the boys' dormitories.

The Origin of a Name

So we all know that Tom's nickname name translates to "flight of death" in French.

Which is ironic because he fancied himself immortal, having made his Horcruxes. And it was a nickname he received/made not long after Hogwarts, i.e. not long after he made his first Horcrux and believed himself immortal (He just didn't use it openly until a decade later).

So little Tom was doodling with his name, trying to make something that was in no way reminding of his Muggle heritage, and also remembering the French he glanced at when he learned that it was sort of a "pure-blood" language tradition.

And little Tom, believing himself to be newly immortal, stumbles upon an anagram , a smush of vol-de-mort that means death flies. He sees it as fate, that death flies from him because he is just that powerful as a student.

And he needs to be seen as noble, that he is descended from pure blood, that as a descendant of Slytherin he is the true lord of darkness.

And thus, the name Lord Voldemort was born.

These are not time travel to the 1940s. I have another post for that. These are mostly Harry has a do-over/second chance at life.

The characterization is amazing, both Harry and Voldemort. They’re ridiculously hot and powerful, and it shows. Loved how obsessed Voldemort was with Harry.

✨A moment of your time / 10k / “I think... it’s best if you go home,” Minister Potter says softly. Tom hears the threat underneath, gentled by the man’s compassion and empathy. Go home, it says. Leave this be.

Tom feels sixteen again, discontent and disregarded. He hates it. He won’t stand for it. “And if I refuse to?” Refuses this refusal of his person. This denial of what lies between them, the mystery of those unreadable eyes, the hum of danger that dances over Tom’s skin like pinpricks of static. He has waited too long for this opportunity to slip away from him.

Tom curls his lips. “Fine, if you don’t want to help me through my heat, then I suppose I’ll be gone for a while. We’ll just have to hope that the ministry won’t fall apart in the meantime.”

He looks toward the corner of the room, which is bare but for a spare chair that no one ever uses. Tom follows Harry’s gaze then asks, voice flat, “Why?”

In which Harry remembers a promise he made to himself long ago and decides it's time to fulfill it. AKA: In which Harry and Tom decorate a Christmas tree together. Eventually.

✨ Cerulean blue / 4k / Voldemort and Harry adopt their younger versions and spend the summer in Ottery St Catchpole. They spoil them rotten and get sunburnt. That’s it.

Oh, and they nap.

✨ The Way to a Man’s Heart / 26k / “Someone is working against me, Harry,” Tom said. “I have been personally stymied. Not once now, not twice, but three times within the last two months.” He closed his eyes briefly. “It is clear that someone out there has begun some kind of baseless vendetta.”

“And it’s just against you? That’s rough, boss,” Harry said

Tom has an unknown nemesis. Harry has Tom’s lunch.

✨ Reporting for Duty / 17k / Harry thinks he wants to be an Auror. Then the Minister for Magic swoops into his life. Harry does not end up becoming an Auror.

In which Minister Tom Riddle literally just hires Harry as his PA because he's cute and argumentative.

✨ The Gift of Giving / 16k / “You don’t work here,” he says, dragging his eyes up and down Harry’s body in a slow once-over. “I’d remember you.” Harry shuffles his feet and, for some reason, the movement makes the man smirk. Harry’s cheeks flame. Fuck this guy.

Tom Riddle might just be the most pompous, entitled, self serving man Harry has ever met. If only his attempts at seduction weren’t so effective.

✨ At the end of every road / 90k

One would think traveling 52 years into the past would allow Harry some much desired anonymity, but unfortunately the malfunctioning Triwizard Cup spat Harry out on the quidditch pitch in the middle of a game. There's no lying about his provenance while a shiny plaque on the base of the Cup announces to everyone he is 'Harry Potter, Hogwarts Champion, 1994.'

Swept up by the ministry and sworn to secrecy by the Unspeakables, Harry is left to navigate the past on his own. Good thing his great-grandparents are willing to take him in - even if they're a little more into blood purity than Harry had expected - and Hogwarts is willing to welcome him back - even if he's a novelty to everyone as the time traveling Champion.

At least Harry will have the familiarity of Gryffindor Tower to ease his homesickness. Or he would, if the sorting hat hadn't put him in Slytherin, where he's forced to share a dorm with none other than Tom Riddle.

“His name is Teddy,” Harry Potter near-growls. “He’s mine. You’re not touching him.”

Enter, Tom Riddle: Dark Lord in The Making and Arsehole Extraordinaire. (And owner of The Most Fuckable Mouth Harry's seen since his days of shameless debauchery he was young.)
