I would make the best Apperture Science test subject because I have, like, a monkey brain that makes it so when I see a puzzle I physically cannot help but try and solve it. A little while ago, I was playing a game with a puzzle where you had to move a bunch of boxes around so you could reach a door on the other side of the room, and I didn't even notice the door for the longest time I just saw boxes I could move around in a confined space and went "oooo box puzzle weeeeeeeee" and started pushing things around without having any idea of what the end goal was supposed to be. Like, I wouldn't even need the incentive of "cake" I would be content with my reward being more puzzles for all eternity.

The novel I’ve been trying to write for the last couple of weeks weeps, watching me walk past my laptop and sitting at my desk to play video games instead

This comic is a little different than what I usually do but I worked real hard on it—Maybe I'll make more infographic stuff in the future this ended up being fun. Hope you learned something new :)

If you are still curious and want to learn more about OCD, you can visit the International OCD Foundation's website. I also recommend this amazing TED ED video "Starving The Monster", which was my first introduction to the disorder and this video by John Green about his own experience with OCD.

The IOCDF's website can also help you find support groups, therapy, and has lots of online guides and resources as well if you or a loved one is struggling with the disorder. It is very comprehensive!

Reblog to teach your followers about OCD

(But also not reblogging doesn't make you evil, silly goose)

I think one of the dumbest things people do is complain about video games not being “Hard Enough” for other people.

Can’t stand someone having fun? Having a good time? A good fun time playing a game?

i can never make a blanket statement of “i recommend this movie/book/show/game”. what i CAN do is tell you the appeal of it, and what personal preferences one would have that would make them like it, and let you decide for yourself if you’re the right audience for this movie/book/show/game

It perplexes me how people can spend all their spare time consuming media for entertainment, yet still criticize those who major and pursue careers in the arts.

Can we stop arguing over whether keep inventory on Minecraft is cheating or not? Who the fuck cares if you're cheating or not in a video game? It's not even a competitive game. It's so stupid seeing grown adults get mad because someone doesn't want to lose everything they got while playing. I've literally seen people send death threats over a SANDBOX GAME! Everyone shut up and just play how you want.

i will defend that fictional teenage girl with my life. i literally don’t even care what she did. you would’ve done it too if you were her she’s probably handling things better than you would in her shoes

My problem with the "looks like a cinnamon roll - looks like they could kill you - is actually a cinnamon roll - could actually kill you" thing is that there's a very big difference between characters that could kill you and characters that would be willing to kill you.

Like, the opposite of "is actually a cinnamon roll" should be "would actually kill you", and there needs to be a z-axis of "has the destructive power of a cinnamon roll" to "living nuclear bomb"

the most annoying people are people who don't understand storytelling. they be like "oooo how convenient that this thing happened to the main character in the very beginning". yeah no shit. that's why the story begins here

I honestly don't understand people who say video games aren't art. Literally what else could they possibly be besides art?

"They're just games! (Derogatory i.e. children's toys ala Monopoly or Mouse Trap, obviously not referring to more complex adult board games like Scythe)"

But. Those. Are art though?

What else could they be besides art?

The suggestion is obviously that video games are "toys for children" or whatever and therefore can't be art because art is for hanging up in the Louvre for pretentious adults to interpret.

Except art for children exists? And video games have been featured in the Louvre??? And I'm a pretentious adult and I interpret video games all the time every day?????

Even if you thought video games were stupid and not worthy of taking seriously, that doesn't make them not art. It would just make them bad art. Which is still art.

The images in a trace and color book aren't suddenly Not Art just because they're for kids to color in. Bad art exists.

I Honestly Don't Understand People Who Say Video Games Aren't Art. Literally What Else Could They Possibly

The suggestion that something doesn't get to qualify as art because it's primary demographic is children or because it is meant to be interacted with and derive amusement from doesn't make any fucking sense.

Why don't you just be honest and say "I hate video games" like a fucking adult instead of trying to legitimize your stupid prejudice by trying to argue that video games don't meet some arbitrary designation of what does and doesn't qualify as art, even though they obviously do.

i do love that you can name pets pretty much anything. with children you have to be reasonable but with pets you can just do anything. you can name your tortoise panopticon

Having multiple of hobbies SUCK BRO.

Why can't I do all of them at once?? Why can't I draw Th Thing, but also write my story, while ALSO playing my video game WHILE ALSO reading my book??? While ALSO prepping for my homebrew D&D campaign?!

It's rude. Where's Hermonie's Time Turner when you need it.

no you have to contribute to your fandom if you don't want it to die. most fandoms die because people say 'it's so sad watching the fandom die when the hype dies' without doing anything about it. I'm not saying you have to push out 100k word slow-burn fic, I'm not saying you have to make fan art or gif sets or edits or anything. I'm just saying we as a community should contribute to our fandom if we don't want it to die, and by contributing, I'm talking about giving kudos, commenting on your favorite fics, reblogging your favorite art and just talking about your favorite characters. that's enough to keep a fandom alive. that's the most effective way to keep a fandom alive in my humble opinion.

fandoms die because people stop talking about it, fandoms die because people stop engaging with fan content once the hype is gone. what I'm saying is, mainstream media's hype may be gone, but our fandom can stay alive and thriving if us as a community don't let it die.

I wish all the time I could read or watch something for the first time again. I chase the thrill of having my mind blown and then long for it once I’ve experienced it because I can never do something for the first time twice.

Dear video essay creators. A video analysis is when you analyze a piece of media. No no look at me. A summary, no matter how thorough, is not an analysis. An analysis requires you to draw conclusions about the media such as authorial intent, real-world parallels, discussion about themes/worldbuilding/character motivation, and so much more. You have to stop summarizing something and saying that’s analysis. The Gaylors are doing more critical analysis than you. Is that who you want to lose to? The gaylors?

I gotta be honest, I don't understand why any video game would ever include licensed music. What is the benefit? Why wouldn't you just make new original songs for the game?

"Oh that's expensive" SO IS PAYING A LICENSE FOR A RL POP SONG?? And it's a much better longterm investment since you can sell an OST that way, the license won't ever expire and impact your ability to rerelease the game, it doesn't negatively impact streamers who are basically your marketing. Why use licensed music instead of original songs?

Am I the only person who really likes video game bestiaries?

They make it so that all the enemies you fight have at least tiny shreds of lore associated with them; they turn the endless procession of fodder mobs from basic-gameplay-loop contrivances into notional parts of a world where stuff is going on, and they provide springboards for imagination and daydreaming. A couple of sentences can turn a collection of palette-swapped pixels with an annoying attack pattern into something that sticks in your thoughts.

I miss bestiaries.

okay but there is something disquieting about this urge to cast fan writers as altruists. they give us all this for free!! well, no.

they’re sharing

it’s a key difference in perception. fic isn’t given. it’s shared. it’s part of a fandom community— in which readers are also an integral part.

it’s probably inevitable mission creep from the increasingly transactional nature of the internet and fandom-as-consumerism, which was always gonna happen after corps worked out how much bank there is to make from those weirdo fan people

but like. fandom is sharing. i think we’ve lost that somewhere.

Too scared to look at tags/post about my interests because some of them have weird fans and I don't want them to think I'm one of them, and then some of my interests are things I haven't finished yet and I don't want spoilers, and some of my interests are super niche and I don't think anyone would care, and some of them are hated for stupid reasons and I'm non-confrontational and don't want to be attacked and some of them
